This wind farm is now owned by Statkraft. It was approved by the Scottish Government in 2009. The 29-turbine wind farm is within the Altyre Estate, 12km south of Forres. The turbines are sited on the lower slopes of Cairn Ghiubhais and Cairn Kitty, which means that compared to other similar-sized wind farms, views of the wind farm are significantly restricted. The turbines are 104 metres high to the tip of the blades. In addition to the turbines, the wind farm consists of a landscaped substation and access tracks. In order to minimise any environmental impacts, connection to the national grid running north of the site is via an underground cable.
*Please note that this figure is based on 26 turbines with a rated capacity of 2.3MW operating at 32.6% capacity (based on site derived data correlated against long term met data) and assuming 4,266 is the average UK household electricity consumption in kW hours (based on DECCs publication URN:12D/468).
