Force 9 Energy has been granted planning consent by South Lanarkshire Council to build a 14 turbine wind farm on land between the villages of Douglas and Crawfordjohn. The wind farm will have a generating capacity of up to 42MW, providing enough electricity for more than 29,061 homes*. The proposed site, some 5km west of the M74 and 18km south of Lanark, is currently commercial forestry which will be re-planted as part of habitat management proposals for the site.
The turbines will be a maximum of 125 metres high to the tip of the blades. In addition to the turbines, the wind farm will consist of a landscaped sub-station, meteorological mast and access tracks.
It is anticipated that construction of the wind farm will start in late 2014 which will start with forestry operations.
*Please note that this figure is based on 14 turbines with a rated capacity of 2.3MW operating at 34% capacity (based on site derived data correlated against long term met data) and assuming 4266 is the average UK household electricity consumption in kW hours (based on DECCs publication URN:12D/468).
